I was researching cyber hacker groups for a paper on “cyber-terrorism” and  I found scant scholarly research on the topic. The prevailing definitions of a “terrorist” doesn’t seem to fit with today’s major hacking incidents. In order to be named a “terrorist organization” that organization must instill fear, terror, harm and death on civilian populations. Therefore, I’ll call groups that hack into public and private sector organizations, hacktivist groups, a term used by many groups, such as Anonymous. Although “hacktivist” groups haven’t harmed or killed anyone, many cyber experts believe that they might. In this blog,
